gods little acre > feng shui

what is it?

it means wind and water, and is the ancient Chinese art/science of placement and energy.

how does it work?

it is all about energy, trying to balance the natural life forces in your home and garden, in order to promote health, harmony, love, prosperity etc

my story

we moved home and ever since the move our baby daughter jasmine seemed to be ill. she got a severe eye infection, chicken pox, a worrying rash and seemed to be getting cold after cold. after reading several feng shui books we realised that our toilet/bathroom was situated in the "childrens" sector of our home (west) - bad feng shui for kids! (:-( we consulted a feng shui specialist who said that a crystal hung in our bathroom window would help. ever since we hung up our little multi faceted crystal in front of the bathroom window she has been well! her eye infection cleared, and apart from the occasional cold she has been full of life and energy. (:-)

what i have learnt through reading many books is that there is no hard and fast rules about feng shui but there are some good solid principles which if carried out with care and love can bring about subtle and sometimes dramatic improvements to your home.

the toilet is not a great place in terms of feng shui (pronounced foong sway) it is said to drain the good chi (energy) from your home (symbolically money or health).

here are my feng shui recommendations

keep your toilet seat down
• keep your toilet door shut at all times
• hanging a small, multi faceted crystal in front of a bathroom window can help

long corridors

long straight hallways can allow too much chi to flow unrestricted straight through your home, this means any good chi will flow straight through your house without a chance for you to benefit from any of its good properties

• hang a wind chime (5 or 7 hollow tubes are best) in your hall to slow the chi - be careful not to place the chime in an obstructive position. Do not place a metal chime in your eastern sector (this will detract from the wood element)

poison arrows

avoid sharp objects, spiky plants, obtrusive objects etc these are said to give off bad poison energy, go for nice rounded objects, uplifting plants instead

space clearing

clear your clutter and change your life! empty one drawer, go through it without any mercy, give away or recycle anything you haven't used in a while and see how good you feel afterwards! this will create room in your house for new energy and will also give you enough energy to start clearing out another drawer! read Creating Sacred Space with Feng Shui by karen kingston, it is the most practical, spiritualguide to feng shui and space clearing that i have read. it really is very inspiring and will show you how you too can have a sacred home. enjoy!
